FBOFW: Farley LIVES!

For those of you that are constantly upset at "For Better or For
Worse" because………  well, just because you choose to be, I
guess………..

I’ve recently spotted what I believe to be a cruel hoax perpetrated by
Lynn Johnston.  Remember when Farley "passed away" rescuing April
years ago?  Well, they faked it!

And Farley has now found gainful employment!  See:

Out of the Gene Pool (5-17 and this week)

Ink Pen (5-17)

Well, if he’s gonna die, he might as well have a lasting memory!:

Illness and death in the comics

So we have "Grandpa Patterson" trying to recover from a stroke (with
weeks of detail), Arlo spending an entire week agonizing over whether to
go to the doctor (Monday’s strip was an insightful gag while the rest of
the week turned into A Very Special Arlo & Janis), Lisa Moore…

I swear, after reading the newspaper’s comics page some days, I have to
turn to the front page just to cheer myself up.

Maybe there should be rule banning comic strips by aging baby boomers.

PvP (5-17)

Short of pulling a Matt Murdock, one of the few benefits of losing
your sight!:

Before anyone complains, they *are* a couple, even shown post coitus
twice . . .

Something Positive (5-17)

Not on the level of Davan, but . . . Mike rocks!:

Detroit Free Press: The new LA Times?

Today (18 May), they didn’t run two strips.

F-Minus (which is kind of understandable, IMO)

And Candorville, for the third day in a row:

I don’t remember many earlier instances of this, so I’m wondering if
they’ve lost a bit of spine after whatever they alluded to as they let
Cory know they were dropping Watch your head.

Tony ("Agnes") Cochran's road to syndication

The GLC chapter of the NCS
http://www.ncs-glc.com/GLC/index.html
has posted a 15 minute (or so) video of
Tony Cochran talking about how he got
to be a nationally syndicated cartoonist:
http://www.ourohio.org/videos/html/m_pp_agnes.php

Kind of a success story as opposed to the
Chris Harding syndication failure story
posted elsewhere.

Cochran’s "Agnes" can be viewed here:

Batiuk article in 5/14 Hartford Courant

In today’s (14-May-07) Hartford Courant Life section, there’s
an in-depth article by staff writer Joann Klimkiewicz on Tom Batiuk
and the current storyline of Lisa’s cancer. In the Q&A, Batiuk
discusses the outcome of this story arc, scheduled for October
and already completed.

Liberty Meadows collections: a precis?

I thought this was discussed recently, but the usual archive isn’t
helping me… what’s the current state of the Liberty Meadows
collections? I noticed that #3 is currently being re-printed, but what
about the others? Will my collection look goofy if there’s a new 3
amongst an old 1, 2 and 4? And why didn’t I just ask Frank Cho himself
at the Emerald City Comic Con last month?

Thanks,

–scott
