Sunday's BC

Anyone see it?  That poem was hilarious, implying how one might go to hell
for voting a certain way.  Who says conservative christians don’t have a
sense of humor.

Does ascii-art violate copyrights?

Does ascii-art violate an artist’s copyright?

If not, could you make a product with an ascii-art representation of
some artist’s character?

I posted this question to rec.arts.ascii and the response was unclear.

In that thread, someone recently posted that in the intro to the last
Calvin and Hobbes book, Bill Watterson said that he hadn’t gotten
copyright’s on any of his characters and that therefore the the
"pseudo"-C&H stickers are not a violation of the copyright laws.

That’s not what I’ve heard in this group, from people who should know
about such things.

Just curious…

Thanks.

Calvin & Hobbes – 11/28/1985

Anybody know if the strip with Hobbes taking a bath in the washing machine
on 11/28/1985 will be in the upcoming book ? This was replaced by a strip
of Calvin getting in trouble and ordering pizza from his room (this is the
one that is in the first C&H book.)

Mark Trail

mckn…@ix.netcom.com (Scott McKnight) is getting bent out of shape
because nobody seems to appreciate Mark Trail. Well, Scott, I just want to
throw my support behind you. There’s an army of Trailheads out there. In
fact, as your story about the Washington Post uproar indicates, fans of
this strip are a particularly devoted bunch. Although I wish Dodd and
Elrod would get back to narratives rather than education in the Sunday
strips. Since you mentioned the Dysfunctional Family Circus, I’ll point
you to a comic called Mr Nature, which used to appear in the Livingston
Medium, a weekly paper at my Alma Mater Rutgers U. It was a deadeye parody
of Mark Trail –completely identical in the drawing style — but marred by
punchlines that usually ran to the college boy slash-and-burn variety.
Don’t know if its still available.

That having been said, let’s be frank. For a truly zen-like cartoon
experience, there is no substitute for Mary Worth. Bil Keane may have his
legion of wistful ghosts, Team Trail may have its stolid nature worship,
but only Mary Worth depicts the true silence of the inner life.

I tried to start a Mary Worth thread, and got a total of about 2
responses. Nobody knows what’s good.
